The struggle for emanzipation of minorities under capitalistic conditions: illustrated with the examples from Australia and Canada

Abstract

The basic thesis put forward ist that only as a comparative historical science can ethnography fulfil its role in the struggle between the two systems of socialism and imperialism at the present day. The situation in its historical perspective of two small peoples viz. the Indians of Canada and the Australian Aborigines, illustrates this thesis. The changes in the economic basis and the ideological superstructure have rapidly accelerated with the scientifictechnical revolution. Now formulated in modern political idiom, the demands of both Indians and Aborigines supported by appropriate organisational forms hinge essentially on the issues of land and recognition of themselves as distinctive peoples. Class differentiation inside each ethnic group and the role of the working class movement are discussed. The use of the comparative historical method enables broad prognostic lines to be indicated.

Борьба меньшинств за эманципацию при капиталистических условиях —на примерах Австралии и Канады. Излагается, что этнография только как сравнительно — историческая наука в состоянии отвечать своим целям в современном соревновании между двумя мировыми системами —социализмом и империализмом. В целях подтверждения этого положения рассматривается ситуация двух небольших народов — индеицев Канады и коренных жителей Австралии — в историческом отношении и с исторической точки зрения. Изменения экономической основы и идеологии развиваются быстримы темпами вместе с научно — технической революцией. Если это выразить современными политическими словами — индейцы и коренные жители Австралии развивали соответствующие формы организации, чтобы выразить свои требования. Основы этих требований — земельная собственность и признание их самостоятельными народами. В статье описываются классовая дифференциация среди каждой этнической группы и роль рабочего движения. Применение сравнительно-исторического метода разрешает прогноз дальнейшего развития.
